Impaired driver arrested by Prince Rupert RCMP

On December 10th, 2022 at 3:45 p.m. the Prince Rupert RCMP responded to a report of a collision where a driver struck a parked car in the 1400 block of 7th Ave E.

Upon their arrival front line members ensured that there were no serious injuries to the occupant of the vehicle, during this assessment the officer recognized the driver was impaired by alcohol. The man driving declined emergency health services (EHS) and was subsequently arrested for driving while impaired.

The man was taken back to the RCMP detachment where he provided samples of his breath where he blew over three times the legal limit of 80mg% alcohol content per 100 ml of blood. The man was released shortly after so a sober adult with an appearance date. Charges are being recommended to the Crown Prosecutors for Impaired Operation and will be forwarded promptly.

"The driver of the vehicle is extremely lucky that no one was seriously injured after he made the choice to drive while impaired," Cst. Brody Hemrich said, "With our National Impaired day happening just last weekend, our officers hoped that it sent a message to the community that it is dangerous to drive while impaired by any extent, let alone when you over three times the legal limit like this man was."
