File # 2016-149253

On October 15th at 8:40pm, Surrey RCMP were advised that a group of five males were observed wearing masks on their faces and had what appeared to be handguns in their hands in the underground parkade of Guildford Town Centre. Officers immediately attended to the location and located the group of males, some of them still wearing masks, and with what appeared to be pistols in their hands. The group was detained at gun point until it was determined that their handguns were actually imitation firearms. The group of males was apparently playing around and could not provide any legitimate reason for their actions in the parkade.

The Surrey RCMP would like to remind the public that many fake or imitation firearms are very hard to distinguish from real firearms. Even highly trained police officers cannot tell the difference until they are closely examined. As a result, police officers have to deal with these situations under the assumption that these weapons are real.
