On June 2nd 2016 at approximately 12:40 am, Surrey RCMP received a report of a pedestrian motor vehicle collision in the 10100 block of 132 Street resulting in critical injuries. A 29 year old Surrey male was crossing 132nd Street, mid-block, when he was struck by a northbound Ford Mustang. Despite the efforts of attending emergency services personnel, the male succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The victim was walking with another male at the time, however, he was not injured.
The Surrey RCMP’s Criminal Collision Investigation Team (CCIT) is leading the investigation and has surveyed the scene and gathered evidence. Investigators have spoken with the driver of the vehicle who is fully cooperating with police. The investigation is still in the early stages, however, at the time of the collision it was very dark with wet roads and the victim was wearing dark clothing.
Anyone with more information about this collision is asked to contact the Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502 or Crime Stoppers, if they wish to remain anonymous, at 1-800-222-TIPS or www.solvecrime.ca.
Surrey RCMP reminds pedestrians and drivers to pay extra attention on our roadways, especially when it is cloudy, dark, and raining. This is the eighth traffic related fatality of the year in Surrey, five of which have involved pedestrians. Surrey RCMP’s Traffic Services has spent considerable resources on pedestrian safety enforcement including the importance of pedestrian visibility when sharing the roadway with vehicles.
