That is the public safety message police, ICBC, and school officials want all motorists to adhere to when driving. Distracted driving is the leading cause of fatalities on BC roads, so motorists are asked to take a break from their phones when behind the wheel; this includes all school zones and drop off areas.

To launch this safety initiative in North Vancouver, there will be a media press conference on Tuesday, September 12, 2017 at Queen Mary Elementary School. All media are invited to attend the press conference at 8:30am on 230 Keith Road West.

Officials speaking at the press conference include the Mayor of North Vancouver, Officer in Charge of North Vancouver RCMP, ICBC Director, and North Van Schools Superintendent. There will also be related activities involving students and motorists.

Children in North Vancouver were recently invited to draw and colour a ‘Think of Me’ safety message on cards (as above). These cards have been handed out to drivers with the message - 'Think of Me. Leave Your Phone Alone'. Across the province, September is distracted driving awareness month, so learn to take a break from your phone. No call or text is more important than your life – or someone else’s!

Remember it's heads up – phone down!
