Shortly after 11 am on December 29, a passerby reported a male that appeared to be passed out inside a running vehicle, parked near 14th Avenue and Cedar Street. Officers attended and located a grey GMC Sierra, with an enclosed trailer attached. A 45-year-old man was in the driver’s seat, with numerous drug baggies scattered around. The truck was confirmed to be stolen, and the VIN numbers had been scratched off the trailer. After the man was taken into custody, officers searched the truck and found 2 imitation firearms – including one in the center console – and numerous keys suspected to be intended for the purpose of stealing other vehicles. The man was held for a bail hearing, and the truck and trailer were impounded.

On the night of December 27, a woman reported that she had been assaulted at a residence on Miles Road in Hatzic. The suspect had since left the house, but returned while police were still on scene, and he was arrested without incident. A search warrant was subsequently executed, and evidence including a tactical rifle was seized from the house. A 47-year-old man from Maple Ridge has now been charged with numerous offences, including unlawful confinement, assault with a weapon and possession of a prohibited weapon.

On December 30 around 3:45 am, a Telus utility line was cut on Dewdney Trunk Road in the area of Mill Pond. A dark grey or green late 90s GMC Jimmy was seen fleeing the area. Anyone with information about this or any other wire theft is asked to contact Mission RCMP at 604-826-7161.

Mission RCMP were called to the area of the Rocky Point campground at Stave Lake on the evening of December 31, after two men were reportedly shooting in the area, in close proximity to the campground. Officers located the men – from Burnaby and from Delta. They were issued violation tickets for discharging a firearm in a no-shooting area, and their gun was seized pending confirmation of ownership. Firearm users are reminded to ensure they are shooting in a safe manner and are complying with local regulations.

On New Year’s Eve, Mission RCMP received a report of a suspicious circumstance on Wren Street near Oriole Avenue. An older man was seen riding one mobility scooter, while pushing another one in front of him. The man was described as looking like Doc Brown from Back to the Future. Officers patrolled the area, but all they saw were two flaming tire tracks on Wren Street. A witness reported seeing the scooters moving at about 88 miles per hour before vanishing into thin air. Great Scott!
