File # 2022-6240

After a lengthy and complex investigation, a 77-year-old man from Deroche has been charged in relation to a serious incident at a Residential School March earlier this year.

On June 4, 2022, a large group of people were walking along Lougheed Hwy just east of downtown Mission, in the March for Recognition for Residential Schools. As the group moved along the roadway, an incident occurred resulting in the driver striking several persons along the way.

The BC Prosecution Service has approved a charge against the driver, Richard Manuel, of one count of Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle, contrary to Section 320.13(1) of the Criminal Code. Manuel will appear in Abbotsford Provincial Court on January 9, 2023.

Our thanks go out to the victims and witnesses who came forward and helped to get the investigation to this stage, says Constable Harrison Mohr with Mission RCMP.
