File # 2017-14570

A man believed to have been high on drugs was arrested in Langley today after a brief standoff with police.
Langley RCMP was called just before one this afternoon to the Logan Avenue bus loop to reports of a male acting erratically with a knife in his hand.  The officers attended and found the male was holding onto a woman against her will - a woman police believe was known to him.
Attempts by the police to calm the man down were not successful and when officers saw the male attempt to harm himself with the knife, the decision was make to deploy the Taser. The deployment had an instant effect and the man released the woman and fell to his knees.
Fortunately, the woman was unharmed and the male was taken to the hospital for treatment.  Officers on the scene were able to react quickly which resulted in no further injuries to anyone.
The investigation is ongoing and updates relative to charges for the 45 year old Langley male will be provided as they become available.
