On April 28, 2017 just before 6:20 p.m. the Coquitlam RCMP responded to a multi motor vehicle collision just north of Pitt River Road on the Lougheed Highway. Three vehicles were involved with three deceased, including one adult female, age 30 in one vehicle, and two female children ages three and nine in a different vehicle. Immediate family have been notified for each of the deceased, no names are being released at this time. Eight occupants were involved altogether with many being transported to hospital for varying levels of injury. The Coordinated Collision Investigation Team along with ICARS is still investigating. Impairment has been determined not to be a factor in this collision.

Lougheed Highway has now been re-opened while the investigation continues into the cause of the accident.
