Cars parked in secure underground parkades are not as safe as you may think

Since January 2017 the Burnaby RCMP has seen an increase in break-ins to vehicles parked in secure underground parking garages. The investigation to date has revealed that the suspects are gaining access to these areas and breaking into vehicles and stealing various items left in the parked vehicles. The offences have been taking place primarily in south Burnaby and occur between the hours of 12 am and 4 am.

While the Burnaby RCMP continues with the investigation and seeks any information that would assist them, they would like to remind people to always remove valuables from their vehicle. It is a misconception that vehicles parked in a secure underground parking garage are safe and it’s important that the community attempts to prevent these avoidable thefts from occurring.

Some tips for preventing theft from and of vehicles:
