File # 2016-56208
Burnaby RCMP has arrested two prolific offenders allegedly responsible for multiple thefts from vending machine that occurred over the past few months throughout the Lower Mainland.
In late December, Burnaby’s Prolific Offender Suppression Team (POST) initiated an investigation after a report was received regarding a theft from a vending machine at a local recreation facility. The investigation led to the discovery that there were numerous reports of similar crimes that had occurred throughout the lower mainland and the suspects were using similar methods to steal hundreds of dollars from vending machines.
It was the work of perceptive investigators that discovered a pattern that linked a number of crimes which occurred throughout the Lower Mainland that led to a positive identification of the suspects said Corporal Daniela Panesar.
Cooperating agencies played a significant role in bringing this investigation to the successful conclusion we see here today. Prolific offenders often commit crimes in multiple jurisdictions and therefore sharing information is essential.
Scott Bown, 49, and Yasmin Mosly, 34, both residents of Vancouver, were arrested on January 25, 2017 and face multiple charges relating to the theft from vending machines.
Often these types of offences occur in isolation and are considered minor until thoroughly investigated and it is not until then, when all the small pieces are put together, that the magnitude of the financial loss is realized.
