File # 2016-35250
Investigators are seeking the public’s help identifying the person or persons responsible for the theft of thousands of tonnes of gravel.
In November 2016, the Prince George RCMP began investigating the theft of gravel from the Hungry Quarry located approximately 75 kilometres east of Prince George on Highway 16.
The quarry owner, Burnco, discovered the gate to the property had been breached and noticed a sizable amount of gravel had been taken. A survey was conducted and found that approximately 8,500 tonnes of gravel was missing. The value of the theft is thought to be in excess of $250,000.
An extensive investigation has been conducted to date and investigators believe that the culprits may have sold gravel to the general public directly from the quarry. Police would like to speak to everyone that purchased gravel out of this quarry from anyone other than Burnco in the last 7 years. Purchasers are not considered suspects, but may have key information that could further this investigation.
This is a substantial loss to the owner of this quarry says Cpl. Craig Douglass, spokesperson for the Prince George RCMP.
It is unfortunate that there are persons in our community that believe they have the right to take whatever they want, with no consequences. We want to ensure there are consequences for this theft.
Hungry Quarry is located approximately 14 kilometres east of the Purden Mountain turn-off and approximately 6.5 kilometres east of the Highway 16 junction with the Bowron Forest Service Road.
