File # 2017-6214 West Kootenay Traffic Services

On November 15, 2017, at 12:08 pm, a head-on collision took place on Highway 3A in the 2200 block (near four mile) on the North Shore of Nelson.

A 30 year old man staying near Kaslo was Northbound on Highway 3A in a Pontiac G6 and crossed over the center line coming out of a curve in the road. An oncoming Toyota Camry was unable to avoid the collision resulting in a crash that shut down Highway 3A for just over an hour. The Toyota Camry was driven by a 63 year old woman who received non-life threatening injuries and her 72 year old male passenger received minor injuries. Both are Nelson residents. The driver of the Northbound vehicle received minor injuries.

The subsequent investigation determined that aggressive driving and speed were the major contributing factors to the collision. Road and weather conditions were not contributing factors. The driver of the Pontiac G6 was later issued a violation ticket for multiple offences related to the crash.

The RCMP would like to encourage members of the public to call police when they witness aggressive driving with as much detail as possible about the offending vehicle. This type of driving puts everyone at risk.
