2017-10-02 16:50 PDT
On October 1st, 2017 at approximately 4:20 a.m. Quesnel RCMP were called to the 800 block of Front Street, for a report that an assault on a male and female had occurred. During the course of the investigation, it was determined the female victim of the alleged assault was breaching a court imposed condition and was arrested by police.
The female was transported to the local detachment where she was examined by Emergency Health Services and subsequently transported to a local hospital, and then a larger area hospital for further assessment. This morning, October 2nd, the female was pronounced deceased.
The Quesnel General Investigation Unit is continuing to investigate the now homicide of the female, and have arrested two people in relation to this incident. This investigation will run concurrent to the IIO BC investigation, who have been notified as per protocols. The IIO BC will now review the actions of police with respect to the initial assault investigation and subsequent arrest, to determine whether any nexus exists between police actions and the woman’s death.
As the matter is now under investigation by the IIO BC, no further information will be released by police at this time. Anyone who witnessed this incident is asked to contact the IIO BC at 1-855-446-8477.
Please note that all aspects and circumstances of this incident will be subject of independent investigation and verification by the IIO BC. For more information about the IIO BC and media updates, you can visit their website at www.iiobc.ca .
