In anticipation of the coming winter driving season the RCMP Lower Mainland District Traffic Services will be conducting a program of private vehicle inspections during the month of October.

The program, entitled Where The Rubber Meets The Road, will consist of rapidly conducted, roadside vehicle inspections, to alert the drivers of possible vehicle defects which could increase their chance of becoming involved in a collision during winter driving conditions. Winter driving conditions are much more demanding on vehicles and we would like to reduce the risks by alerting motorists to any existing safety hazards that may be present on their vehicles, stated Deas Island Traffic Services Cst. Neils Hermes.

Vehicles will be checked for defects in essential areas such as tires, lights, wipers, windows, seatbelts, and load securement. Hermes went on to say, It is our hope that by being proactive now we can reduce the number of collisions that occur when driving conditions worsen.
