The University RCMP continues to seek public assistance in locating 21-year-old Louis Gonick who has been missing since April 16, 2017.

Mr. Gonick, a UBC student from Ecuador, last made contact with friends on April 16. He was reported missing to the University RCMP Detachment on April 17. Since then, an extensive marine and land search has been conducted with assistance from the RCMP’s West Coast Marine Services, Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (Coast Guard), Vancouver Police Marine Unit, Vancouver Police, Transit Police, Vancouver Port Authority and City of Vancouver Park Rangers.

Police investigators have confirmed that Mr. Gonick called a local taxi cab company which dropped him off in the area of Stanley Park in the early evening on April 16.

Police are asking anyone who may have seen Mr. Gonick or had any interaction with him in the days leading up to and following his disappearance to call investigators. This is a tragic circumstance and understandably Louis’ family and friends are extremely worried about his well-being, says E Division Senior Media Relations Officer S/Sgt. Annie Linteau.

Mr. Gonick’s family members do not live in British Columbia but they have now travelled to the province where they were briefed by police investigators.

Louis is the most loyal of friends and the best son a mother could imagine. From the bottom of our hearts, we love you and we are waiting for you with our arms wide open. We urge anyone who may have information about my son’s disappearance to please call police, says Louis' mother, Lupe Carrera who travelled to Vancouver from her home in Ecuador this week to join in the search for her son.

If you have any information that may assist police in locating Mr. Gonick, please call the University Detachment non-emergency line at 604-224-1322 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477. Alternatively, a message can be left on their website at Solvecrime.ca.
